Ricarda Peters
Ricardas Peters born in 1935 in Wiesbaden / died in 2023 in Wiesbaden
Ricarda Peters (1935–2023) was an important German artist of postwar abstract art. She was born in Wiesbaden, where she lived and worked until her death. As the daughter of a conductor and a dancer, she was influenced by music and movement from an early age—a sensual foundation that was later reflected in her dynamic, rhythmically structured paintings.

After graduating from the Werkkunstschule Offenbach in 1960, Peters moved to Venice, where she worked as a master student and assistant to the famous painter Emilio Vedova from 1968 to 1972. This stay had a lasting influence on her artistic style, especially in the field of informal and gestural abstraction. In the 1980s, she complemented her artistic profile by studying archaeology and art history at the University of Mainz.
Ricarda Peters’ work is characterized by a deep exploration of color, surface, and movement. Her paintings are not representations, but autonomous spaces of experience that allow the viewer to see openly and without preconceptions. Numerous study and work stays abroad—including in Rome, Israel, the USA, India, and Russia—have broadened her artistic horizons and are reflected in the complexity of her work.
As a member of the renowned artist group 50 Wiesbaden, she was a fixture in the regional art scene for decades. Her works were shown in numerous exhibitions, including at the Kunsthaus Wiesbaden. Ricarda Peters passed away on December 16, 2023, at the age of 88. Her work remains an impressive testament to a quiet but consistently pursued artistic vision.
